Storm Aftermath

We spent the day cutting up the many branches that fell in our backyard after last week's storm. We dragged them to the curb and hope the town will pick them up tomorrow.

A Lion in Autumn

Here's one of the lions outside of the New York Public Library on 5th Avenue and 42nd Street. I'm not sure which one this is, Patience or Fortitude (or Ignorance and Pestilence as I used to call them).

I've seen weird stuff tied to the front of garbage trucks but not too many unusual things on the front of bicycles.

Sometimes it seems like there are more taxis than people in New York.

The rains have not been kind to the watercraft of Lake Huntington. There's a lot of work in store for those that need to do the end-of-season closing in the next few days.

Lunchtime at Bryant Park

It's the jewel of midtown Manhattan and despite the somewhat cloudy weather today it was packed with people seeking some lunchtime inspiration.

Racing and Festi-fall

Today there will be 2 photos - because it was such a wild and crazy day.

This morning I ran my first half marathon and I thought that I would include a photo capturing the moment that I crossed the finish line.

Later on in the day we went to Festi-Fall our annual street fair dedicated to sloth and excess. The kid in the pictue was put in a booth and made to grab flying pieces of paper, some of which were dollar bills

The elementary school that I went has torn up the concrete nightmare of a schoolyard and planted an organic garden. Truly a sight to behold.

A Very Wet Friday

The city truly never sleeps or rest and a downpout never stops anyone!

Union County

if you look carefully at the photograph, you'll notice that in the seal of Union County the woman has her arms raised and the soldier is pointing his rifle at her. What a county! What a country!

You don't have to go far to get interesting photos. This was taken just outside the building I work in.

A Rainy Tuesday

Today was a bit of a challenge since it was dark and wet and the camera seemed to want to flash. I'll need to learn how to turn that off. Midtown Manhattan is a magnet for interesting looking people, though.

On Broadway

Sometimes when I walk around New York City I feel like I have no idea what is going on.

I encountered this scene on a lunchtime walk and, while it seemed to be some kind of publicity thing for Save the Children nothing seemed to be happening other than a very odd setup.

Sunday in the Park

So we took a little wander today through Brookside Park in Scotch Plains and came upon some storm damage from Hurricane Irene which someone enhanced with a bit of a human touch.

Another New Beginning

Blogging was fun for a while but I began to realize two things:

1. Did I really have anything unique to say?
2. Did I really want the world knowing what was on my mind.

I decided the answer to both questions was no. I did, however, still want to reflect on the world I was living in so I came up with a slightly different format. Maybe I would try to come up with a photo of the day.

So here's my first one. This was taken while riding my bicycle up the NYC West Side Greenway. We stopped to look at the Free Kayak launch.
